We are excited for our 3rd big year of GILT Jr! Every summer, GILT Jr (a part of Grand Island Little Theatre) hosts a week long event for children who had completed 3rd - 8th grade. This year, GILT Jr. will be Monday, June 26th through Saturday, July 1st. They will attend classes and workshops teaching them about other aspects of theatre, such as theatrical makeup, audition preparation, character creation and more. All GILT Jr staff are certified teachers, paraeducators, or former teachers from Grand Island and surrounding areas. The assembled team represents more than 83 years of working with children and 95 years of theatre experience. The workshop will be held at Grand Island Little Theatre's home at College Park from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The show will be performed Saturday, July 1 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. These performances are open to the public, seating is $6.00 per person.
Students are asked to sign up in advance for the workshop, so supplies can be on hand. The cost is $40 per student, which includes a t-shirt. A stage make-up kit (optional) will be an additional $20. Admission to the workshop program is limited, so early registration is recommended.
The play for 2017 is "IN THE HOOD". Feel the beat of this hip story by Pat Lydersen about an urban community on the brink of ruin. This lively neighborhood has rhythm as neighborhood teens keep the beat on plastic buckets rapping out the story of their “hood”. Kind, old Mr. Fineburg (the owner of these neighborhood buildings) is in money trouble and is about to lose his buildings. A greedy businessman is ready to purchase the buildings and turn their “hood” into a state-of-the-art parking lot. Watch as everyone comes together to try and save their “hood”.
Registration will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
